escape.

express.

exhale.

This concept explores creating a direct contrast to the nature of the Mitchell Reading Room. The room, used for research and study, is a severely quiet space - a space that is at times quite fraught.

A disruption has been created that counters that tension and provides an environment in which you may unwind, and let go.

The predominant intention of the disruption is to facilitate dance, and the freedom and release you get by participating in that act.

EXTERIOR

The exterior reflects - conceptually and physically - the tense disposition of the Reading Room. Polypropylene components form a sharp and confronting exterior shell. The components are hollow, lightweight, and stackable, allowing for ease of transportation and installation.

Polypropylene Components

The symmetry of reflective light-filled components creates a heady, kaleidoscopic fantasy.

INTERIOR

The interior utilizes the exterior's hollow components with reflective film, and coloured light, to create an intoxicating, kaleidoscopic environment. Each light throbs to music, enhancing the dynamism of the space. A reflective ceiling creates unending height, pushing the space far beyond the physical. A generic Unistrut structure frames the space, allowing for ease of construction.
